broccoli

Broccoli – an ancient vegetable of Europe, orginating around the Mediterranean. The Romans grew the same as we enjoy now in 200 AD. Surprisingly it only came to England in 17th century.

It has more Vitamin C than citrus fruits and is high in iron. It is good for blood, liver and like its cabbage family is anti-carcinogenic, especially useful with breast and colon cancers.

It is the least aggravating for vata of the cabbage group. Lightly steamed or just blanched in boiling water it retains it nutrients. It is lovely with a little fresh ginger, or gingered ghee.
